This internal guide helps LFDS course content developers plan Moodle modules, select approved learning resources, organize links, and build consistent 4–6 week lab experiences across STEAM Studio, Laissez Fair Digital Academy, and partner programs.
Updates / Notes
This reference library is not a finished curriculum. It is a course development guide that helps developers wrap external resources with context, instructions, activities, assignments, reflection, and wrap-up. CoSpaces and Minecraft links will be added as class links, remix links, project links, and world links become available.
Getting started
Work top to bottom, or jump straight to a platform, category, lab, or link bank from the sidebar. Search filters the sidebar by section title, platform, and category.
Pick the approved platform that carries the instructional weight of the module before writing anything else.
Categories carry grade bands, difficulty options, topic ideas, and recommended submission types.
Use a 4–6 week blueprint as the skeleton, then swap modules to fit the learner group.
Context, instructions, activity, assignment, reflection, wrap-up. Never paste a bare link into Moodle.
Every module states at least one submission type before it is published.
Approved links go in the link bank; anything not yet available stays a placeholder card until it is real.
Instructional standard
Every LFDS module follows the same reusable flow. External resources are never dropped in raw — they are always wrapped.
Overview
Frame the topic, objective, and why it matters to the learner.
Lesson
Deliver the instructional content in LFDS voice with clear headings.
Activity
Hands-on task on the approved platform with student-facing instructions.
Assignment
Defined deliverable with stated submission type and expectations.
Reflection
Prompt that connects the work back to the learning objective.
Wrap-Up
Summary, next steps, and preview of the following module.
Adjust every course build to the learner group.
Use these to scale the same topic across learner groups.
Students explore a tool, complete a guided task, and explain what they noticed.
Students create something that responds to user input, choices, movement, events, sound, collaboration, or simple logic.
Students design a complete experience with a purpose, audience, story, explanation, or real-world connection.
Assessment
Approved submission types for LFDS modules. Every module must name at least one.

Instructional anchors
Three core instructional platforms plus two placeholder platforms. Every LFDS module should route back to an approved anchor.
Use Common Sense Media for digital citizenship, digital literacy, media literacy, online safety, privacy, digital footprint, AI responsibility, online well-being, cyberbullying, healthy technology habits, and reflection prompts.
Developer note: Common Sense Media should be used whenever a module needs responsible digital life instruction, including safe online choices, healthy technology habits, privacy, media literacy, respectful communication, digital identity, online safety, and AI responsibility.
Use Code.org for coding foundations, computer science, AI, app design, web design, game design, creative coding, engineering/maker connections, programming tools, and project-based coding activities.
Developer note: Code.org should be used whenever a module needs coding, sequencing, algorithms, loops, events, debugging, app design, web design, game design, AI concepts, or computer science practice.
Use CoSpaces / Delightex Edu for XR design, immersive learning, virtual worlds, 3D design, interactive storytelling, AR/VR exploration, simulations, virtual museums, spatial design, CoBlocks coding, and project-based immersive media.
Developer note: CoSpaces / Delightex Edu should be used whenever students are creating immersive worlds, interactive scenes, virtual museums, digital citizenship environments, simulated spaces, story worlds, or 3D projects.
Use LearnFree (learnfree.org) for digital foundations, computer basics, internet skills, core productivity skills, Microsoft Office and Google tools, creativity tools, AI skills, career readiness, and self-paced tutorials for older learners and adults.
Developer note: LearnFree is the go-to anchor for Digital Foundations and Artificial Intelligence Foundations when learners need step-by-step, self-paced tutorials. Always wrap tutorials with an LFDS objective, task, and evidence of learning — never assign the topic explorer alone.
Use DigitalLearn for plain-language Digital Foundations courses: computer basics, mobile devices, internet navigation, email, online privacy and safety, video calling, online job search, and everyday tasks like healthcare and banking portals.
Developer note: DigitalLearn courses are free and downloadable. Each course typically ships a white-labeled PowerPoint plus a learner guide and an instructor guide. LFDS uses the LEARNER resources for course development — pull the learner handout and slides into the Moodle module, rewrite headings in LFDS voice, and keep the instructor guide as facilitator-only reference. Best fit for Adults / Community and older learners; simplify wording for Upper Elementary and Middle School.
Use Khan Academy as a SUPPLEMENTAL source for Digital Foundations — especially online data security (passwords, encryption, phishing, malware, multi-factor authentication) and computing/communication innovations (email, SMS, social media, how data moves at light speed).
Developer note: Supplemental only. Never assign a whole Khan unit — link only the specific article or activity that matches the lesson objective for the module being built. Khan articles pair well with a short LFDS reflection or a Common Sense Media citizenship discussion, and their interactive activities can be used the same way Code.org labs are used.
Use Minecraft Education later for immersive learning, game-based learning, coding, engineering challenges, virtual builds, collaborative world design, computer science, social studies, science, math, arts/design, esports, cyber safety, and project-based challenges.
Developer note: Minecraft Education should remain a placeholder for now. Specific lesson links, worlds, assignments, and class resources will be added later when available.
Use this section for LFDS-created Moodle lessons, internal templates, worksheets, rubric links, portfolio assignments, project sheets, and facilitator-created resources.
Developer note: Internal LFDS material only. Keep templates consistent with the LFDS Module Blueprint so every module reads the same way across programs.

Introduces learners to basic technology skills, digital tools, internet use, file management, online accounts, online safety, and responsible technology habits. Built primarily from LearnFree and DigitalLearn material, with Khan Academy used as supplemental depth for cybersecurity and communication topics.
Developer note: Keep tasks short and concrete. Every skill should end with a visible artifact the learner can submit. Source order: LearnFree tutorial or DigitalLearn learner guide first, then a Khan Academy article/activity only when the lesson needs extra depth on security or communication. Use DigitalLearn's white-labeled slides and LEARNER docs (not instructor docs) inside Moodle.
Teaches learners how to use technology responsibly, safely, ethically, and respectfully.
Developer note: Pair every scenario with a reflection prompt. Avoid fear framing — focus on choices and habits.
Introduces sequencing, algorithms, patterns, debugging, loops, events, conditionals, and computational thinking.
Developer note: Always wrap Code.org activities with LFDS context, instructions, and a submission expectation.
Introduces user interface design, app planning, problem-solving, prototyping, and beginner app development.
Developer note: Require a stated user problem before any building begins.
Teaches how websites are planned, designed, built, organized, and published.
Developer note: Accessibility check should be a required step, not an extension.
Supports creative computing, 3D design, storytelling, coding, AR/VR exploration, virtual museums, simulations, and immersive learning.

Check these before publishing any LFDS Moodle module.
Working document
Draft a module here, then copy the fields into Moodle. Nothing is stored — this is a local scratch template.
Version 1 requires no login or database. Entries are not saved between visits.
Developer tools
Reusable scoring categories. Pick three to five per module and state them in the assignment.
All required steps, files, and submission pieces are present and finished.
Correct use of the platform's tools, features, and workflow for the grade band.
Original choices in layout, story, visuals, audio, or world design.
